
Allentown, PA – September 18, 2025– At its Regular School Board of Directors Meeting held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the School Board of Directors also approved two accomplished educational leaders, Dr. Amelia Coleman as Deputy Superintendent, and Ms. Ijeoma Ikwunemere as Chief of Performance Management & Accountability.
“Dr. Coleman and Ms. Ikwunemere bring exceptional expertise in continuous school improvement, strategic planning, and executive leadership,” said Mr. Herman James, Chief of Talent Management & Labor Relations. “Together, they will help us accelerate the progress already underway through our Lighting the Way: A Blueprint for Innovation and Excellence 2030.”
Dr. Amelia Coleman, Deputy Superintendent
Dr. Coleman joins ASD from Prince George’s County Public Schools (MD), where she served as Associate Superintendent overseeing 51 district schools. With more than 20 years of experience, she is recognized as a visionary leader who has driven measurable gains in student achievement, reduced chronic absenteeism, strengthened bilingual programming, and mentored future school leaders.
Her previous leadership roles include Assistant Superintendent in the School District of Philadelphia, where she advanced professional development and expanded inclusive instructional practices, and Principal of William D. Kelley Elementary School, where she led sustained academic and cultural transformation. Dr. Coleman holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and a Master of Education from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Temple University.
Ijeoma Ikwunemere, Chief of Performance Management & Accountability
Ms. Ikwunemere most recently served as Deputy Chief of Data and Strategy at DC Public Schools, where she oversaw the modernization of the enterprise data ecosystem and chaired the Equity Committee for the District’s strategic plan. She brings over a decade of experience in driving systemic change through data-driven decision-making, equity-centered policy, and performance management.
Her leadership background also includes roles as Director of District and School Transformation at Boston Public Schools, Director of Data and Evaluation at the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative, and research and evaluation work with national organizations. She earned a Master of Arts in Human Development and Social Intervention, with a concentration in Education Policy and Applied Statistics, from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sewanee: The University of the South.
With these appointments, the District continues to build a strong leadership team committed to innovation, academic excellence, and student success.
